In his youth, he was a member of the Boy Scouts of America and went on to receive the Certification of Eagle Scout. Throughout his life, he would continue his support of his old Boy Scout troup.

Marshall graduated from Grant High School in 1953, received his Bachelor of Science from OSU in 1957 and DMD from Oregon University School of Dentistry (now OHSU) in 1961.

Elks Lodge of St. Helens, The Rotary Club, Past President of the Columbia County Dental Association and Past Director of the Oregon Dental Society Board.

An avid OSU alumnus and member of the Beta Theta Pi fraternity, Marshall loved boating, snow skiing, wood working and playing the piano.
